La Fortuna & Arenal Volcano

La Fortuna is a small town located in the Alajuela province of Costa Rica, known for its proximity to the Arenal Volcano, one of the country's most famous landmarks. The town is surrounded by lush tropical rainforests, rivers, and waterfalls, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

Arenal Volcano is a stratovolcano that rises 1,657 meters (5,436 feet) above sea level and is considered one of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica. The volcano has been dormant for hundreds of years but erupted in 1968, causing significant damage and resulting in the formation of a new crater.

Since then, Arenal has continued to be an active volcano, but its eruptions have been mild and infrequent. Visitors to La Fortuna can view the volcano from various lookout points, hike through the surrounding rainforests, and enjoy activities such as zip-lining, white-water rafting, and hot springs.

The town of La Fortuna offers a range of accommodations, from budget hostels to luxury resorts, and a variety of restaurants and cafes serving local and international cuisine.
