Costa Rica is home to over 200 volcanic formations, five of which are classified as active. Due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region with a high concentration of volcanic and seismic activity. Here are some of the top volcanoes in Costa Rica.

These volcanoes offer stunning views and attract tourists from all over the world. However, it is important to note that they can be dangerous, and visitors should always follow safety guidelines and check with local authorities before visiting.

Arenal 
Volcano

This is one of the most popular volcanoes in Costa Rica and is located in the northern part of the country. Arenal last erupted in 1968 and is currently dormant, but it is still considered an active volcano.

Poas
Volcano

Located in the central region of the country, Poas is one of the most visited volcanoes in Costa Rica. It has one of the largest active craters in the world and last erupted in 2017.

Turrialba Volcano

Located in the eastern part of the country, Turrialba is one of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica, with frequent eruptions in recent years. It has been erupting since 2014, with intermittent activity.

Irazu
Volcano

This volcano is located in the central region of the country and is the highest active volcano in Costa Rica. It last erupted in 1963 and is currently dormant.

Rincon de la Vieja Volcano

Located in the northwestern part of the country, Rincon de la Vieja is an active volcano that last erupted in 1998. It is part of a national park that also features hot springs, waterfalls, and other natural attractions.
